“We stand with Palestine!” – Socialist presidential candidates unequivocally support the struggle against Israeli apartheid
Claudia De la Cruz and Karina Garcia were both proud to join demonstrations over the weekend in solidarity with Palestine. De la Cruz explained why it was so important to take to the streets, “The people of Palestine have been subjected to murder, torture, occupation, and the theft of land by the Israeli regime since it was established in 1948. These crimes are paid for with our tax dollars – nearly $4 billion every year.” De la Cruz continued, “We came out into the streets to say what no politician is willing to say: the struggle of the Palestinian people is just. At a time when so-called progressives and liberals are falling over themselves to embrace Israel and condemn the resistance, we are not afraid to say: We stand with Palestine!”
Karina Garcia highlighted the similarities between the Israeli and U.S. governments, “As two countries that were founded on the basis of racism and the theft of land, it’s no wonder that the governments of the United States and Israel are best friends. Like Jim Crow, Israeli apartheid imposes a separate set of oppressive laws on Palestinians. Like Black, Latino and other oppressed communities here, Palestinians are also subjected to surveillance, police killings and vigilante violence. We have so much more in common with the people of Palestine than we do with the government that speaks in our name.”
Claudia De la Cruz emphasized, “Israeli leaders are now openly calling for genocide against Palestinians. The Biden administration sent an aircraft carrier to the area to support Israel. No matter how this war escalates, we will never waver from our basic principles – Palestinians have a moral and legal right to resist!”
