THE PARTY FOR SOCIALISM
AND LIBERATION

The Party for Socialism and Liberation is fighting for the immediate needs of poor and working people and for the socialist transformation of society. Capitalism cannot and will not solve the crises that threaten to destroy humanity: catastrophic war with Russia and China, climate change and unmanaged artificial intelligence that will replace millions of jobs.

The billionaires get richer, and the Senate, the Supreme Court and the banker-control of the Federal Reserve manage the affairs of the ultra-rich as millions continue to sink into debt and poverty. Poverty is now the fourth leading cause of death and 75% of all Americans between the ages of 20-75 will be among the “current” poor or near poverty, it is clear that vast majority of people in this country cannot have a future while capitalism allows the ruling elite to thrive and grow their profits while life and work worsen for the working class.

In order to emancipate the workers, we have to build a socialist movement, anchored in a multinational organization, that fights for a socialist transformation and abolishes the tyranny of the market, that abolishes the rule of private property and profit.

We are fighting for a planned economy, the democratization of decision-making, production and distribution that works to our collective resources and labor to meet the needs of the people and the planet. The market, capitalist exploitation and a profit motive will no longer dictate who gets access to life-saving medicine, who has a place to live, who gets evacuated from a flood zone or who goes to prison.

There are two choices: it’s capitalism or it’s socialism. We choose socialism because it’s possible and necessary. We know we cannot wish socialism into existence -- it takes political organization and uniting millions of people of all backgrounds for a common goal and a common vision -- that we have no choice but to take power from the tiny elite and give it to the vast majority -- to the water protectors, the climate activists, the students, the political prisoners, the immigrants, the farmers, the women, the workers, the poor, the LGBTQ fighters, the anti-racist organizers.

Join us in the ongoing fight. This is about more than one election or one campaign. It takes building an independent political organization. We are in over 50 cities across the United States and count with  multinational and multigenerational leaders of key social movements engaged in the daily fight against exploitation and oppression and for the socialist reorganization of society.

WHY WE ARE RUNNING IN THE 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

Imagine you are marching in the streets with hundreds of thousands of people demanding to “Stop the War Machine,” to fund people’s needs like education, healthcare and jobs for all. Swept away by the voices rising in unison, someone chants, “We are unstoppable, another world is possible.”

You may have heard this chant in the streets during the anti-racist protests of 2020, or during the Occupy Wall Street movement, or after Ferguson rose up against the murder of Mike Brown. We invite you to go one step further and say to yourself, “We are unstoppable. A socialist world is possible.” And it’s time to define, organize and plan the alternative world we envision for ourselves and for our future -- the socialist world -- a world that is possible, urgent and necessary.

Envisioning the socialist transformation of society does not have to be a dream, the resources and knowledge exist to transform society in the interests of the workers and take the power out of the hands of the ultra-rich capitalists. Yet, hopelessness and instability permeate the reality of the millions of Americans that struggle to live a life with dignity. It is difficult to be optimistic if you face a life of debt, the potential for homelessness, job loss or incarceration.

The young people in this country also feel this sense of despair for their future. The National Institute of Mental Health has cited suicide as the leading cause of death for young people in the United States. Additionally, the Center for Disease Control released data in 2023 citing nearly 3 in 5 U.S. teen girls feel persistently sad or hopeless, making hopelessness a critical issue among young women.

We are here to say things do not have to be this way. That there is hope for the future and that we need all people to take part in constructing it.

The constant threat of war, deepening inequality and climate change are the three major crises confronting all of humanity. Capitalism creates these problems and cannot solve them. The Republican and Democratic Party establishments refuse to take immediate action to abolish debt, end racist policing, provide reliable access to health care, education and housing. The two-party system is loyal to Wall Street, the corporations and the banks — empowering them and all the billionaires to get richer while the rest of us get poorer. The people have the power to change the power structure and turn it upside down to end the rule of the rich.

A socialist society, which we struggle for, organize for, and plan for, will meet the people’s needs. A socialist society means we do not have to fight for concessions, we do not have to compromise on paying for life-saving drugs or paying for the mortgage, we do not have to run in circles voting Republican or Democrat chasing empty promises. Yes, we want to fight for the small gains that make a difference now in people’s lives and we want the big wins -- and that takes revolting against the underlying system that depends on the exploitation and oppression of workers.

Claudia De La Cruz and Karina Garcia are running in the 2024 presidential campaign for president and vice-president of the United States with the Party for Socialism and Liberation. They are running as the candidates of the PSL because they believe in the organized, collective struggle of the people and understand that this campaign is about more than one issue or one election cycle. This campaign is about all the issues that impact the working class and connecting them to the capitalist system and building a stronger movement that can win immediate demands and can look towards a socialist future. Claudia and Karina believe that independent people’s organizations are the instrument to fight the capitalist class, the ultra-rich, the corporations, and the politicians who work to defend the capitalist system.

A socialist party like the PSL gives purpose and confidence to the working class when the capitalist class continues to steal our labor, our wealth and our hope. The PSL is multinational, made up of working people from across the country -- women, LGBTQ people, Black, Latino, Asian and Native people, people living in urban areas and rural areas, immigrants -- standing up to many forms of injustice that exist in society. The PSL is of the working class and fighting for the economic and political power of the working class. We fight for the immediate needs of the poor and working people and look to the socialist horizon.
