Border wall another example of how Biden has betrayed immigrants, say socialist presidential candidates
Claudia De la Cruz and Karina Garcia, presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, call for legalization of all undocumented immigrants and the reversal of Biden’s decision to continue border wall construction
Reacting to the announcement by the Biden administration that they will move forward with the construction of “the wall” along the U.S.-Mexico border, Claudia De la Cruz noted that, “It is becoming almost impossible to distinguish between immigration policy under Biden and under Trump.” She explained how, “Over and over, Democratic Party politicians pretend to care about immigrant rights on the campaign trail, only to abandon those promises as soon as they take office. Under Biden, Trump’s “Title 42” policy that made it impossible for asylum seekers to enter the country has effectively been continued in the form of Biden’s ‘transit ban’ rule. And family separations have continued too. Now, to top it all off, Biden has decided to move forward with the signature racist policy of the Trump era.”
Karina Garcia pointed out the absurdity of Biden’s excuse for going forward with construction of the border wall, “It’s insulting that Biden expects us to believe that he is moving ahead with construction of the wall just because it had previously been budgeted for by Congress. Is he the president or not? Obviously this is going forward because he wants it to.” She continued, “If there’s money in the budget, let’s use that to make sure that working people’s basic needs are met, or providing compensation to the refugee families who have cruelly and illegally been torn apart by US immigration policy.”
Claudia De la Cruz also commented on the administration’s announcement that it would also be resuming deportations of Venezuelans, “Democrat and Republican politicians alike are using Venezuelans as pawns without any regard for their human rights. The fact is that people will continue to leave Venezuela as long as the US government continues to economically strangle the country with sanctions. This economic warfare must end immediately.”
