HOW TO PLAN OUTREACH
Flyering
People needed: 1+ volunteers
Best for: Reaching a high volume of new people, spreading our message, bringing a group together
Materials needed:
Clipboards
Pens
Sign-up sheets
Campaign half-sheets (download here)
Instructions: Get a rough headcount of volunteers to make sure you have enough supplies. Print the outreach materials in advance.
Bring together volunteers at a central meeting location. Do introductions and explain the purpose of outreach if there are new people present. Volunteers should be prepared to speak on campaign platform and answer how people can learn more and get involved. Fill the sign-up sheets!
Divide volunteers into pairs or groups, divide up the materials, assign flyering locations, and share the time and location for wrapping up.
Follow-up: Collect sign-up sheets and input contacts in a spreadsheet to share with info@votesocialist2024.com. Make sure to follow up quickly with any promising new volunteers. Re-engage volunteers within 48 hours, even if just on the phone.
Tabling
People needed: 2+ volunteers
Best for: Meeting and talking to a high volume of new people; political and practical training
Materials needed:
Foldable Table
Chair
Pens
Clipboards
Campaign sign-up sheets
Campaign half-sheets (download here)
Optional: sign with inviting hook (e.g. Vote to cut the military budget by 90%!)
Optional: relevant literature about specific topic
Instructions: Decide whether the campaign generally or a particular subject will be the best subject to engage people in the given setting. Volunteers should be prepared to speak on campaign platform and answer how people can learn more and get involved. Fill the sign-up sheets!
Set up a table in an area with high foot traffic and engage people in conversation. The best opportunities are large gatherings, political or cultural.
Follow-up: Input contacts in a spreadsheet and share with info@votesocialist2024.com. Follow up with any new contacts.
Postering
People needed: 1+ volunteers
Best for: Engaging volunteers, promoting upcoming event (though does not have to be postering for an event)
Materials needed:
Campaign posters (download here)
Campaign half-sheets (download here)
Tape
Scissors
Staple gun and staples
Thumbtacks
Instructions: Print posters, ensure you have sufficient tape/adhesive for each postering team, and create a plan for dividing up to cover different locations.
Bring together volunteers at a central meeting location. Do introductions and explain the purpose of the activity if there are new people present. Divide up the group into pairs or teams to cover different locations, with consideration for pairing more experienced volunteers with new volunteers. Divide up the posters and materials and assign locations to each team. Share the time and location for wrapping up. Make sure to get any sign-ups before splitting up.
Follow-up: Re-engage volunteers within 48 hours, even if just on the phone.
