South Africa is right – Israel is guilty of genocide! And Biden is too.
For the last two days, a historic trial has played out in the International Court of Justice. Israel has been accused of genocide by the government of South Africa. Our campaign applauds this act of international solidarity that is exposing the Israeli war machine and its main partner, the U.S. government.
In the official platform of our campaign, we say “Under a democracy by the workers, war criminals and Wall Street con men would be locked up – finally brought to justice for their monstrous crimes against the people.” While the ICJ does not have the power to order criminal penalties like incarceration, we are happy to see Israel forced into a courtroom and made to account for their actions.
But true justice will come when the war criminal Joe Biden is brought to justice too. He should be hauled before a court of Palestinian judges to stand trial for genocide, and never see the outside of a prison cell for the rest of his life.
As South Africa’s lawyers proved in great detail, what is happening in Gaza is a genocide. Civilians and civilian infrastructure is being targeted in a systematic way, leading to a massive number of deaths. Top Israeli politicians have openly stated their intention to destroy the Palestinian people, not just militarily defeat the resistance. All Israel’s lawyers could muster up was a series of debunked false claims to dress up their massacre as an act of self-defense.
Genocide is not only an abhorrent crime in a moral sense, it is a legal matter subject to an international treaty signed by the vast majority of countries, including the United States. The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide defines genocide as acts, “to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group” and obligates all signatories to “undertake to prevent and to punish” this crime.
If the Biden administration is providing the missiles, bombs, and bullets that every day are destroying hospitals and killing children, then Biden is guilty of genocide just like Netanyahu is.
The Convention also classifies “complicity in genocide” and “conspiracy to commit genocide” as punishable crimes.” When Biden sends his top diplomats all around the world to justify Israel’s crimes, when he wields his veto power at the United Nations to block a ceasefire, when he travels to Israel to embrace Netanyahu as the bombs rain on Gaza – is this not the crime of complicity in genocide? And when the Pentagon ships billions of dollars of weaponry to Israel every year and helps the Israeli military develop comprehensive war plans despite the well-known genocidal views of its leaders, is that not “conspiracy to commit genocide”
Murderers like Biden carry out atrocities on a routine basis because they think they will enjoy impunity for their crimes. It’s the same reason that racist cops feel so emboldened to kill Black people, or why Wall Street con men rob workers on a regular basis. The rich and powerful should not be immune from being brought to justice.
